23 Sphinx , Friday Morning

Bo had spent a lot of this week cleaning up the mess that last week had created, but she hadn't got anyone to come in and do the big repair job yet. No, not the one on her brain where she paid somebody to make her forget everything that happened between Friday and Monday. The one at the back of the hardware store, where right now there was a vaguely Bo-and-Mitchell-shaped hole in the wall.

Last night she'd at least managed to drag the big chunks of fallen masonry out to the scrapyard, but the hole itself was temporarily blocked with a bookcase and waiting on a call-back from the mainland, while Bo slept the happy, exhausted sleep of the dragged-masonry-to-the-scrapyard-last-night.

Or did she? Dun dun DUUUUUN...

"Oh. Damn. You're probably not on birth control then."

Kenzi took a moment to let that settle in and traumatize Bo a little more as she went back to get another coffee Slushy from the fridge, then was back and sitting on the end of the bed again. "Yeah, they'd probably have undead cold sperm or something, wouldn't they? Shit. I was going to ask for a recommendation. I guess I could make any guys I'm with stand in a walk-in freezer first, but that would get me more 'crazy' votes than Tex mouthing off on the Radio every week."

"Okay first, eww, and no." She might as well give up on the KID! KID! INAPPROPRIATE CONVERSATION! buzzer when it came to Kenzi. The girl wasn't just more streetwise than Bo had been at her age; stuff came out of her mouth that wouldn't occur to Bo now.

"Not so you'd notice anyway, and second, the hell I'm not. The way I've lived for the last ten years, you think I could afford to risk bringing a kid into that life?" If it would even survive, or be possible, or... whatever. A whole lot of high school dreams gone by.

"Aha! Okay, so what's the best one?" Kenzi gave Bo a hopeful and slightly anxious look. "For here, I mean. When you might miss a pill during weekend crazy. I don't want to take four pregnancy tests again just to chill out after hooking up with someone I didn't mean to."

"The latex kind tends to take care of that," Bo pointed out, though she had to stop and think about it afterwards. "But when you're not yourself, who knows if whoever you are will think of that. Damn, when you look at it like that, why isn't this island crawling with babies?"

"See! And we did, for which I'm really grateful, 'cause that guy was with four other people last weekend, but I don't want to be like that other Canadian girl who's toting a baby around!" Kenzi took a breath and then gulped, biting her lip. "So, you ever-- have a close call?"

Bo hadn't checked into the baby in the dorms much beyond being told that there was a baby in the dorms and where it was in case of emergencies, so she couldn't correct that assumption; instead she just winced at the four other people part.

"My close calls were always about waking up next to dead people," she answered with a shake of her head. "I don't think I can catch anything that way, though; part of the deal is the act itself heals any injuries." Of hers. It wasn't so helpful to the other person.

"Hunh." Kenzi sat back and slurped on her Slushy, considering the pros and cons of that, and deciding again that Bo's deal was worse. As always. But she was the only older person around Kenzi could ask this crap, until Petra gotr those workshops up and running. "Does that mean... every time, ever since you were my age...?"

"So you waited." Which, Kenzi sometimes wished she had, since Tim turned into a dick, even if she did forgive him eventually. "Hayride, or prom?"

"Yeah." Which... answered most of that, without needing to elaborate. "After that, things were more about surviving and not getting caught. Me, not them. every so often they'd get lucky because there was some kind of interruption from outside, so no, not every time, but close enough."

"He was a slimy stinky piece of work," Kenzi agreed without missing a beat. "I was pretty out of it by that point. I kept wanting to tell you that your boots were too cool for you to make out with him. But I was pretty damn happy to see you."
