Bo was not chortling as she reviewed the outdoor security footage from last week, because that would be mean.

She was trying to figure out how to instruct the system to FREAKING CALL HER when it identified things like someone hanging naked from the side of the dorms.

And snickering a little.

Which was not chortling.

At all.

Bo blinked at him and wondered if she should be taking notes. "Do evil rocks always invade in August?"

"The rocks were new," Anakin said, "but it's always something. Last year there were portals that sucked people to other dimensions. We've had dinosaurs, dragons made of Jello, a really charming one where half of us ended up in a parallel universe where vampires were winning..."

"Which...was bad?" She had to check; the only vampires she knew weren't exactly at war with anybody. Well, when Mitchell was sane, he wasn't.

"Very," Anakin said. "They viewed the rest of us as meals on the hoof."

"Lovely." Bo thought about asking if there'd been a evil version of Mitchell or Eric... and thought about not. Because she didn't want to not be able to un-know it later. "Though.... jello dragons? That doesn't sound so bad. "

"Just messy," Anakin replied. "It's not always mortal peril, but it seems to come about three times a year."

"What, once isn't enough?" So much for just penciling out August on the calendar.

"Apparently the island just draws trouble," Anakin said. "Personally, I blame some of the students."

Just don't ask why.

Oh, Anakin. "Why?"

Not that Bo would disagree that Certain Students were designated magnets for mayhem from birth, but she wanted to know why he thought so.

"You've met them, right?" Anakin asked dryly. "I wouldn't be surprised if crazy was drawn to this island."

"Then again, maybe that's why they're here," Bo pointed out. "Because the island drew in the weird ones."

Pause.

"Unlike us, of course."

"Naturally," Anakin said. "Speaking of weird ones, an alumni is returning. He sent me a puppet and some Grey Poupon."

"I think the slight fear I ask this with is understandable. Why?"

"The short answer is because he's insane," Anakin replied. "His name is Jamie Madrox and it's his picture on the teacher's dartboard in the lounge."

Why did that name sound familiar? "Isn't he one of the new teachers?"

"HE'S TEACHING?!"

Inside voice, Anakin.

Bo had to laugh. "That bad? They sent me a list so I'd know the difference between 'new faculty' and 'random creepy adult hanging around the students.' At least he's not one of those?"

"He can be both," Anakin griped, "especially if you hit him."

He realized that might require an explanation.

"He replicates if he's hit."

"Like those food machines on Galaxy Quest?" Err.... Oh. "Oh. He clones himself?"

"The second one," Anakin said, nodding. "So he can irritate every member of the faculty simultaneously."

"That sounds..." Freaky. But who the hell was she to talk? "Useful, I guess." Or, under some circumstances, fascinating, but she wasn't about to ask Anakin if the guy was cute.

Actually -- "Is he cute?"

More for the look on his face than because she had a burning need to know.

Anakin looked absolutely horrified.

"No!"

"That was so worth asking, just for that expression." She only wished there was a security camera on in the actual security office right now.

"You are a terrible person," Anakin decided, nodding.

"Sometimes," Bo agreed. "I want to use my powers for good, but evil is so tempting."

Irony: 2 points, one for the speaker and one for the listener. Bo: only aware of the first.
